Officials asked to expedite work

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 21 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today instructed the departments and officials concerned to expedite the implementation of the 20-point programme during a review meet.

An official release stated that the Chief Minister took serious note of the slow pace of execution of the projects in some departments and directed the officials concerned to finish the pending work within next two months. He also expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects in a few departments.

Asking the departments to review the implementation of the projects from time to time and also to maintain inter-departmental coordination, the Chief Minister called for adequate monitoring of the programme by the Chief Secretary.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government had accorded special importance on foolproof implementation of the 20-point Programme, as it held the key to addressing rural underdevelopment. He said that the aspects given priority under the programme included socio-economic development of villages, poverty alleviation, and tackling rural unemployment.

Without ensuring development for the rural masses that constitute 75 per cent of the States populace, Assam cannot march on the path of progress, the Chief Minister said, adding that the self-help groups (SHGs) were doing a good job in generating self-employment in the villages.

Several other ministers and top officials attended the meet.
