Office attacked, govt vehicle torched

SHILLONG, June 11 - Unidentified miscreants have attacked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) office here with a petrol bomb.

In another incident, the vehicle of a government official was set ablaze at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district today. However, nobody was injured in the twin incidents.

The police said that the attack on the NHIDCL office was detected this morning when the staff arrived at the office located at Kharmalki. They added that investigation is on to identify those behind the attack.

The petrol bomb attack comes close on the heels of the assault on an NHIDCL engineer, Sujit Kumar Singh, and his driver by unidentified persons at Nonglang village in South West Khasi Hills district on Sunday. One person has been arrested in connection with the assault.

Meanwhile, a government vehicle of the District Social Welfare Officer of South West Khasi Hills district, L Lyngdoh, was set ablaze at the Mawkyrwat market this evening. Police said that an investigation is on.
