DIMAPUR, Oct 3 - The odd-even vehicle rationing scheme will be introduced in Dimapur and on NH-29 till Chumukedima town from October 5 to 31.
Dimapur Commissioner of Police Rothihu Tetseo, in an order issued on Saturday, said on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, only vehicles with registration number ending with an odd number will be allowed to ply.
Similarly, on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, only vehicles with registration number ending with an even number will be allowed on roads.
The restriction will not be enforced on Sundays.
The order said that government servants on bona fide government duties and vehicles engaged in essential services and COVID-19 related duties will be exempted from the purview of the restriction upon production of relevant documents and valid ID.
Two-wheelers will also be exempted from this rule.
All heavy vehicles except those engaged in four-lane construction work with valid permit will be restricted from plying within the town area and on the highway from 9 am to 3 pm.
Tetseo said violators of the aforementioned order will be penalised under Section 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. He appealed to all citizens to cooperate in this regard in the interest of public safety.
