Oculoplasty experts from 15 nations in city for 3-day event

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - The 30th Annual Conference of Oculoplastics Association India (OPAI) began in the city on Friday. The three-day conference, hosted by Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya in collaboration with the Ophthalmological Society of Assam, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday evening.

The theme of the conference is �Today�s Science, Tomorrow�s Technology � Breakthrough in the Ambit of Oculoplasty Excellence�. More than 500 delegates from within and outside India are taking part in the event.

Many international and national faculties, researchers and experts in oculoplasty, including Dr Robert Goldberg, Dr Don Kikkawa and Dr Bita Esmaeli from the US, and 14 other countries are participating in the meeting.

The event will feature 3D live surgery, workshops, orations and various other scientific programmes. Apart from ophthalmologists, the event is also being attended by maxillofacial surgeons, ENT surgeons and cosmetic surgeons.

In his inaugural speech, Sonowal congratulated Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Oculoplastics Association of India, Ophthalmological Society of Assam and the local organising committee for bringing this grand event to Guwahati.

Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee, chairman of the organising committee and president of Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, in his inaugural speech said that this was the largest oculoplasty assembly so far in India. He also spoke about the services offered by Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya for the people of the region for the past 24 years.
