Observers take stock of readiness for ensuing polls

TEZPUR, Oct 11 - General Observer Pabitra Mandal visited the strongroom and counting hall set up at the DRDA office campus here on Thursday and reviewed the arrangements and facilities available in the presence of Returning Officer and CEO of Zila Parishad Diganta Baishya and Election Officer Subram Aditya Bora.

He also visited the training hall for presiding officers held at the District Library auditorium where around 250 presiding officers were given hands-on training on how to operate EVMs and VVPATs, besides on the election process as a whole.

The General Observer later interacted and held a detailed discussion with District Informatics Officer Anup Baruah, Additional DIO Jayanta Kumar Nath and other officials of the NIC and reviewed the progress on the use of portals like Suvidha, Sugam and Samadhan in the presence of Returning Officer and ADC Parag Kakaty.

Later in the day, General Observer Pabitra Mandal also attended the second randomisation of all EVMs and VVPATs which was carried out in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner�s office in the presence of representatives of political parties and other district administration officials.

A total of 197 EVM/VVPATs will be required for the upcoming polls. An additional 98 ballot units and control units (50%) and another 98 VVPAT machines (50%) have been kept in reserve.

In the meantime, Expenditure Observer M Anand Kumar visited the Expenditure Monitoring Cell and held a meeting with Assistant Expenditure Observer and other members of the expenditure monitoring team set up for the upcoming by-election to 74-Rangapara LAC.

He also visited the strongroom set up at the DRDA office campus and the counting halls to assess preparation for the upcoming polls. He also visited the Media Cell and the Media Monitoring Cell set up at the office of the DIPRO and made necessary recommendations to the cell incharge in this connection.

Expenditure Observer M Anand Kumar later visited several areas under Rangapara LAC and monitored the activities of the static surveillance teams, flying squads and video surveillance teams set up for the purpose.
