By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 23 - On May 23, 1910, the national anthem of Assam O Mor Aponar Desh was composed by Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa, according to Rajiv Hari Kaushik who has been doing research on the anthem for the past 18 years.

The song was composed by Bezbaroa while travelling to Puri from Howrah onboard a passenger train with his family members and the family members of Dr DN Chatterjee. Both the families were on a pilgrimage to the Puri Jagannath Temple, said Kaushik in a statement here today.

The journey made Bezbaroa nostalgic about his memories of Assam and this aroused his longing for his native State and its beautiful atmosphere, language, etc., said Kaushik, adding, the news of his mothers illness was also disturbing him at that time. Bezbaroa visited Assam in September that year to meet his mother, Kaushik said.
