By Staff reporter

Guwahati, April 7 - The total number of COVID-19 patients in the State went up to 28 on Tuesday, with two persons one from Dhubri district and another from Hailakandi district testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

The person from Haila-kandi district, identified as 65-year-old Faizul Haque Barbhuyan has a travel history to Saudi Arabia. This is the first positive case from Hailakandi.

Barbhuyan, who had returned from Saudi Arabia on March 18, is being shifted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. While his contact tracing is on, his family has been quarantined. He is a resident of Borjurai on the outskirts of Hailakandi.

Dhubri Correspondent adds: The first COVID-19 case of Dhubri district was detected today when 67-year-old Al-Haz Jamaluddin of Chapar, who attended the Tablighi Jamaat event at Nizamuddin, tested positive.

Police said the patient went to attend the event unofficially without informing the local Markaz. Dhubri Joint Director of Health Dr Syed Imdadullah said the patient stayed at Nizamuddin from March 5 to 9. On March 10, he returned from Delhi to Guwahati by Rajdhani Express. On March 12, he returned from Guwahati to Abhayapuri. On that very day from Abhayapuri, he reached his residence at Moatari, near Chapar.

The Joint Director said that from March 12 to 16, he led a normal life and on March 18, he went to Chapar CHC for treating his fever, and on that very day, he went to Bongaigaon Civil Hospital for further treatment. After we came to know about his travel history and his medical condition, we took him to Dhubri Civil Hospital and did his swab test on April 5, and we received the test report today that he is COVID-19 positive, he said.

The Joint Director said that after his swab test, he was kept in home quarantine, as he returned from Nizamuddin on March 10, about 26 days before the test was conducted. He said the patient has now been shifted to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital at Guwahati.

Samples of his family members will be collected and they will be quarantined.

Members of the local Markaz said that after returning to Guwahati, the patient stayed at an Athgaon Masjid along with a few members of Tablighi Jamaat.

He was also in contact with a 10-member team of Tablighi Jamaat, which came from Uttarakhand to Chapar.
