Number of BOPs along Indo-Bangla border reduced

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Dec 21 - The Centre has confirmed that it has reduced the number of Border Out Posts (BOPs) along the India-Bangladesh border.

As per sanction, a total of 383 BOPs were to be constructed along India-Bangladesh border. This was changed to 326 BOPs as the construction of remaining BOPs was not feasible either due to difficulties in land acquisition or due to site conditions. Remaining BOPs will be taken up as and when the site is made available or construction becomes feasible at an alternative site, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said in a Rajya Sabha reply.

The average inter-BOP distance for Indo-Bangladesh border is already approximately 3.5 kilometres. There has been no report of security breach into the State of West Bengal due to lack of sufficient BOPs along Indo-Bangla border, he said.
