NSU Bill may be introduced in next session

IMPHAL, July 17 - The National Sports University (NSU) Bill is likely to be introduced in the next Parliament session in order to establish the country�s first-ever NSU in Manipur.

This was disclosed by State Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh at a press conference here on Friday.

Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports officials gave the assurance when a delegation of Manipur Government officials headed by him went to Delhi to pursue the matter, Nabakishore added.

In his budget speech on June 10, 2014, the Union Finance Minister had announced that Rs 100 crore was proposed to establish the NSU in Manipur.

The Manipur Government has provided 336 acres of land at Yaithibi Loukon in Thoubal district against the actual requirement of 200 acres of land for the varsity.

The Chief Secretary further informed that there is a court case over 34 acres of land and the State Government has decided to appeal to the parties fighting over the land to withdraw the case in the interest of Manipur and sports persons of the State. He assured that the government will try to resolve the matter by July 31 this year.
