NSSP covers 400 schools in Manipur

IMPHAL, June 25 - The National School Safety Programme (NSSP), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, has covered 400 schools in Imphal East and Chandel districts in Manipur.

Under the programme, 200 schools in Imphal East and another 200 in Chandel districts have been covered with training on non-structural mitigation measures such as School Disaster Management Plan Preparation, according to a release from DIPR, Imphal.

Mock drill has also been conducted in all the 400 schools. A total of 800 teachers � 400 each in Imphal East and Chandel districts � have been trained on School Safety Programme. NSSP was implemented in the two districts during 2011-12 and 2012-13 with a fund allocation of over Rs 1.73 crore.

On the other hand, under the Other Disaster Management Programme (ODMP), the NSSP with 100 per cent funding from the Central Government is implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 43 selected districts in the country with a view to provide safe learning environment.

NSSP is handled by Department of Relief and Disaster Management (R&DM), Government of Manipur.
