PANDU, March 6 � A week-long annual special camp of the National Service scheme was organised by Pandu College NSS unit.
Sunil Basumatary, youth officer, Guwahati Regional Centre NSS, inaugurated the camp. He appreciated the role of Pandu College NSS unit for its year-long activities and for organising special camps regularly. Dr Dipali Das Kar, vice-principal, Pandu College, presided over the meeting.
Dr Navaneeta Baruah, programme officer, NSS (girls wing) explained the importance of the camp in her welcome address. A number of resource persons and dignitaries were invited to the camp which imparted training on AIDS awareness, personality development, national integration, environmental awareness, disaster management, flag salutation, etc. The NSS volunteers also undertook trekking programme on Nilachal Hill under the supervision of Tarun Saikia, the first to scale the Mount Everest from Assam. The valedictory function of the camp was graced by Dr Sushil Singha, co-ordinator, NSS, Gauhati University.
The camp was conducted by Dr Parag Deka, programme officer NSS (boys wing) and Dr Navaneeta Baruah.
