NSCN (K-YA) cadre killed in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Oct 18 - A cadre of NSCN (K-YA) was killed in an encounter with security forces at Wakka in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. A defence source today said that based on specific input, the security forces along with the local police launched an operation in Wakka. On being challenged, the insurgents opened fire, to which the security forces retaliated, and in the ensuing firefight, the security forces eliminated one insurgent, the source said.

Neither any security personnel nor any civilian was injured in the encounter. The security forces recovered one �Lathode Gun� with three live rounds, one .32 pistol with magazine and one round, and one Chinese hand grenade on the slain militant. The recovered items were later handed over to the Longding Police Station.

�The conduct of the operation displays the highest standards of professionalism and adherence to laid down rules of engagement,� a defence spokesman said.

2 drug peddlers held

The Anti-Drug Squad of Tirap District Police today arrested two drug peddlers from Khonsa during a raid conducted based on specific information.

Police also recovered approximately eight grams of suspected heroin from their possession. A case has been registered against them at Khonsa Police Station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985, Tirap SP Kardak Riba said.

The SP urged the people, especially the youth, not to indulge in drug abuse and its unlawful trade, and stated that the anti-drug campaign will continue till Tirap is made a drug-free district.
