IMPHAL, MARCH 22 � Cadres of NSCN-K waylaid a foot patrol team of 8th Gorkha Rifles at around 8:30 am on Saturday under Khoupum police station, Tamenglong district in Manipur and killed two riflemen on the spot and injured over a dozen of them, claimed a press note of the NSCN-K.
According to the press release, the encounter which started in the morning continued till late afternoon even as the Gorkhas retaliated with cover fire while the military choppers carried out several sorties to lift the injured and killed soldiers.
�It may also be mentioned that Naga inhabited areas of Manipur do not come under the effective coverage of the ceasefire between NSCN/GPRN and Government of India,� stated the NSCN-K press statement.
