NSCN-IM accused of issuing trade licences

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Oct 10 - The anti-taxation group in Nagaland has accused the NSCN-IM of issuing trade licences to business houses and shops in Dimapur.

Strongly objecting and condemning the alleged issuance of trade licences by NSCN-IM, Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation Nagaland (ACAUT) said such exercise should be discouraged by all.

In a press release, ACAUT questioned what it described as absurdity of trade licence being allegedly issued by NSCN-IM when Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) was already issuing them. It reminded NSCN-IM that in a reality of multiple factions, the exercise of issuing trade licence is an extremely anti-people trend and a matter of concern for the public if other factions also start issuing their own trade licence.

ACAUT asked the DMC to look into matter with urgency and stop the dangerous trend. Asserting that there can be only one authority that could issue trade licence, ACAUT said such an exercise directly undermined authority of the district administration.

The release said unless this absurdity was stopped it could come to a point where people may force the State Government and all Naga political groups to divide and sort out among themselves the revenues collected from trade licence and not bother the public.

ACAUT further termed as unacceptable the alleged threat to gaonburhas and council members of Medical Colony, Dimapur by GPRN/NSCN for refusing to pay tax, saying the leaders were only adhering to peoples resolution of one government one tax since the October 31, 2013 rally, according to the release.

It cautioned the Naga undergrounds not to test the ire of the people but rather pay heed to plea of the people. ACAUT also lauded Dimapur police for arresting two cadres of NSCN (R) on charges of extortion, the release added.
