NRC update process under way in Kamrup

MIRZA, March 15 � The NRC updation process in various revenue circle offices of Kamrup district has begun in full swing and a large number of people have come forward to join in the process, according to official sources.

The National Register of Citizens contains details of all Indian citizens and it will be updated as per the provisions of the Citizens Act, 1955, and the Citizenship Rules, 2003.

Talking to The Assam Tribune today, the Palasbari Circle Officer, Pankaj Chakraborty, said that a massive awareness drive on the NRC updation is being carried out at different places under the revenue circle in order to remove fears from the mind of the people and help prepare a proper citizens� register within the stipulated time-frame. He said that a large number of people, including government officials, have come out spontaneously and in high spirits, singing songs and staging roadside plays to highlight the process.

Chakraborty said that the process in the Palasbari Revenue Circle office is one of the biggest NRC updation exercises in Kamrup district and altogether 20 NRC Seva Kendras have been set up at different places in the revenue circle, out of a total of 38 NRC Seva Kendras in Kamrup district.
