NRC pilot project update by Dec 31: PC

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Oct 26 The Centre is committed to completing the pilot project on update of National Register of Indian Citizens within the time frame of December 31. The Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram assured this to AGP MP Kumar Deepak Das.

The AGP MP, who called on the Union Home Minister at his North Block Office told newsmen that Chidambaram expressed his ignorance, as to why the project was being held up. But he assured that the Centre is committed to complete the pilot project by the year-end, as assured.

In his memorandum to the Home Minister, Das alleged that the pilot project was taken up in Barpeta and Chaygaon, but citing the violence in Barpeta, Assam Government put on hold the entire process though the up dating process was smooth and peaceful in Chaygaon.

He reminded the Home Minister that the updating process was taken up 25 years after signing of the Assam Accord and that too at the specific assurance of the Prime Minister and initiative of the current Home Minister.
