JORABAT, Dec 29 - On the instruction of Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu, an awareness meeting on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was organised by the Sonapur Circle Officer and NRC officers on the Jorabat Bhadrakaleshwari Mandir premises today.
Sonapur Circle Officer Dr Dhruvajyoti Hazarika cleared the doubts of the people present on the occasion on the NRC draft publication. He said the part draft of NRC would be published and displayed at the NSKs and also online. The draft NRC will be displayed for public from January 1.
The cases of persons whose names have not been enlisted may be due to non-completion of office verification or some discrepancies in this part draft and would be considered as pending, which will be considered in the next phase, he added.
Jorabat Police Outpost In-charge Partha Pratim Gogoi asked the people not to panic if their names are not updated in the part draft, as those would invariably be updated if the persons are genuine Indian citizens.
Gogoi urged the people not to get involved in any activity that could lead to a law-and-order situation as this is just the first phase and the names not enlisted in this phase would be updated in the next phase. Several popular citizens along with locals also attended the meeting.
