GUWAHATI, March 6 - The National People�s Party (NPP) is looking to contest from all the Lok Sabha constituencies of the North East in the upcoming general elections, stated Meghalaya Chief Minister and party president Conrad Sangma here today.
Speaking at a function to launch the Assam unit of the party, Sangma said, �The NPP from its inception always has been raising the issues affecting the people of the North East, due to which in a very small span of time our party has spread its reach across the region. Our party was formed to raise the issues of the North East in a strong way in front of the Central government and we affirm to do so. We will always work for the development and protection of the indigenous people of the North East. Hope in coming days we could touch each and every person of this region.�
Addressing party workers, he asserted that public representatives of the NE do not get proper response from ministers and national leaders in New Delhi. �Our sentiments and problems are not important for the Central government. So it is time to stand under the umbrella of NPP to raise a united voice,� he said.
Citing the example of the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, he said, �This movement proves the value of unity. Due to the united voice of all organisations and people, the Bill was not tabled in the Rajya Sabha. It proves that without unity we will not succeed in solving any problem.�
He further said, �We have lots of resources and it is time to act to utilise them. Central government in past days had only formulated schemes, but never really acted to develop the region. If we need development, our youngsters will have to come forward and work hard.�
