By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, March 18 - Maintaining tradition, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and National Peoples Party candidate for Lok Sabha, Agatha Sangma today kicked off their campaign from Adokgre village located in East Garo Hills.

Late PA Sangma used to launch his election campaign from Adokgre village and this tradition has been maintained by his wife Soradini Sangma and children Conrad and Agatha.

In the small gathering, apart from the Chief Minister and Agatha and other senior NPP leaders, former Chief Minister from Congress and now an NPP functionary, DD Lapang addressed the gathering and sought support from the people.

In his address, Lapang urged the people to cast their vote wisely invoking the legacy of late PA Sangma. Comparing late Sangma as one of the tallest leaders of the country, he said, his daughter is following the footsteps of her father.

The 38-year-old Agatha is pitted against veteran Congress and Opposition leader in the Assembly, Mukul Sangma. The Congress candidate has contested twice from the Tura Lok Sabha seat and lost on both occasions to late PA Sangma.

Agatha has won the seat in 2008 on an NCP ticket and went on to become one of the youngest Ministers in the then UPA Council of Ministers.
