NPP flayed for fielding non-tribal candidates

By Correspondent

TURA, Sept 20 - A consortium of NGOs including the FKJGP, GSU, AYWO, ADE and FAF has come down heavily on the National Peoples Party (NPP) for fielding a non- tribal candidate in Shyamnagar constituency under Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).

SG Estamur Mominin (Rahibul Islam Sarkar) filed his candidature from the seat on NPP ticket on Wednesday, joining another six candidates, most of whom are non-tribal.

The Ngo consortium, who had earlier been angered by the Congress for allocating seats to non-tribals, severely condemned the act of NPP leadership and asked the party to withdraw his candidature.

In a release yesterday, the consortium slammed the NPP for its propaganda that it will not field any non-tribal candidate. The NPP was falsely trying to espouse that it was a party for the tribals of India, the release alleged.

The people of Garo Hills are sore about the fact that the non-tribals are being fielded by political parties and the fact that non-tribals have managed to intrude and penetrate in the indigenous peoples affair by participating and involving themselves in the GHADC, said the release.

The consortium appealed to the NPP and Congress to withdraw the candidature of the non-tribals.
