DIMAPUR, Oct 5 - NPF Legislature Party leader TR Zeliang has reiterated the party�s stand on inclusion of the Naga flag and constitution in the final agreement on the Naga political issue. The NPF leader also said the Centre should not work out any piecemeal agreement.
The NPF Legislature Party, led by Zeliang, conveyed this to Nagaland Governor RN Ravi at a meeting at the Raj Bhawan in Kohima today.
Deliberating on a wide range of issues concerning the State, including the Naga political issue, the party urged the Governor that all Naga groups, including the group led by Adino Phizo, should be taken on board before arriving at a final solution, a press release stated.
�No armed group should be left out of the final agreement in order to secure the future of the Nagas,� the NPF members told the Governor.
Stressing that the final solution should not become a cause for dissent among the Nagas, the party said the final solution should not be a repetition of the 16-Point Agreement or the Shillong Accord, which failed to bring permanent peace.
Assuring full cooperation towards working out an early solution, the Nagaland Opposition party pointed out how certain clauses under Article 371(A) were misinterpreted in the past. It highlighted some loopholes in the Article and said that it should be strengthened and more clauses should be added to remove the ambiguities.
The NPF added: �The Nagas cannot fully utilise the Article because it is interpreted to their disadvantage by the Centre and its courts of law, making it practically redundant�.
On his part, the Nagaland Governor assured that all means for a honourable and amicable solution to the decades-old vexed Naga issue would be explored. He expressed the hope that the resolution process would be expedited and a historic solution would be arrived at soon.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to other issues raised by the NPF and committed himself to safeguarding the interests and well-being of the Nagas, the release added.
