DIMAPUR, March 14 - Opposition NPF in Nagaland has extended the olive branch to any like-minded party to forge an alliance in its bid to defeat the ruling People�s Democratic Alliance�s consensus candidate Tokheho Yepthomi in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
According to reports on Thursday, the NPF is likely to tie up with the Congress but the party is yet to take a final call. The party has not yet decided on its candidate to fight the Lok Sabha poll.
NPF sources said it wants to tie up with any like-minded party in the ensuing poll to uphold the interest and common good of the Naga people.
Congress insiders said the party is keen to set up a consensus candidate with the NPF.
Nagaland will vote for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the State on April 11.
Congress workers are buoyed by the return of former veteran leader SC Jamir taking on the role of mentor of the party.
The former Congress leaders who rejoined the party included former Nagaland PCC president SI Jamir, former Minister Nillo Rengma, former Speaker Z Lohe, former Deputy Speaker Joshua Sumi, former MLAs Dako Phom and Supongmeren and former Nagaland PCC general secretary Vaprumu Demo and 14 others.
Nagaland PCC president K Therie has welcomed the former Congress leaders back to the party fold and expressed hope that with their return, the Congress will put up a united fight to combat the BJP and its regional cohorts.
Therie said more leaders would be joining the Congress in the coming days.
