GUWAHATI, May 26 � Abdul Ali (50), a resident of Pub Dhansirikash village under Dhula Police Station, who the police claim is the mastermind of several cases relating to kidnapping, illegal human trafficking, rape and murder, was produced before the court here on Monday following his arrest from one of his hideouts in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati.
He was reportedly involved in the sensational kidnapping, gangrape and subsequent murder of an adolescent girl of Dhula in Darrang district, informed DSP Dr Rasmi Rekha Sarma, who had been leading the operation.
Police were looking out for this hardcore criminal since the arrest of five of his accomplices in connection with the case about which reports have been published earlier in this newspaper. During preliminary interrogation by police, the accused confessed to his involvement in at least four cases of kidnapping, murder and human trafficking, etc., including the present case, besides trafficking of a woman to Delhi from Kharupetia and the murder of Sofia Khatoon, the wife of a policeman in Barpeta, DSP Sarma said.
Police investigation has further revealed that the accused has been masterminding his criminal activities across the State from a hideout somewhere in the Ri-bhoi district of neighbouring Meghalaya.
