GUWAHATI, April 18 - The home department has issued a notification directing jail authorities concerned to release as many as 24 life convicts, including a woman.
In the list of to-be-released life convicts, the highest number of convicts were from Tinsukia and Silchar district jails with four each.
The other jails from where life convicts would be released are Nagaon Central jail (1), Guwahati Central Jail (1), Tezpur Central Jail (2), Goalpara Jail (2), Sivasagar Jail (2), Hailakandi (1), Dibrugarh Central Jail (1), Special Jail Nagaon (2), Barpeta district jail (1), Karimganj (1), Diphu Jail (1) and Nalbari Jail (1).
The development comes after the State Level Committee on Remission recommended the names of 24 life convicts languishing in different jails. They would be the second batch of life convicts to be released.
