GUWAHATI, July 31 - The State government has already issued notification in line with the guidelines of the Union Human Resources Development Ministry with regard to children�s school bag policy for reducing the weight of such bags.
This was stated in a written reply by Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya in the Legislative Assembly today.
He said that district education officials have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the rules with regard to weight of school bags.
As per the notification of the State government, the maximum weight of a school bag should not exceed 1.5 kg for students of Classes I and II, 2 to 3 kg for Classes III to V, 4 kg for Classes VI and VII, 4.5 kg for Classes VIII and IX and 5 kg for Class X.
