Noted writer S Bhattacharya passes away

NAGAON, Oct 13 - The seniormost woman litterateur of Nagaon district, Soujanyamoyee Bhattacharya breathed her last this morning at her residence situated at Nagaon Amulapatty due to old-age ailments. She was 97.

She was born in 1922 at Hatigarh Tea Estate in Jorhat. Renowned thriller writer, Kumudeswar Borthakur was her father and renowned advocate of the district, Pramodram Bhattacharya was her husband. She was earlier conferred with Asom Lekhika Sanstha�s Labonya Hazarika Ideal Mother Award. She wrote more than 20 books of poetry, short stories, novels and others. She was also involved in the Assam Movement, the language movement of the state.

Paramananda Rajbongshi, Padum Rajkhowa, the president and secretary general respectively of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, the journalist community, various organisations of the district as well as other dignitaries have condoled her demise.

She leaves behind five sons, two daughters and other relatives.
