Noted scientist calls for environmental protection

GUWAHATI, April 17 - IIT Guwahati�s Department of Chemistry and Centre for the Environment jointly organised a guest lecture on �Energy and Environment Wellness � An Indian Perspective�, in the institute�s premises on Tuesday. The lecture was attended by a large number of young researchers, students and faculty members, said a press release here.

Delivering the lecture, distinguished scientist Dr Sanat Kumar Saha emphasised the need for energy security through multiple sources of energy, with particular focus on renewable sources for sustainability as well as environmental protection.

He highlighted the alarming situations and unnatural deaths due to respiratory, lung, cardiac, cerebral stroke diseases etc., arising out of air pollution.

He mentioned different ways and means of energy conservation and effective and productive use of energy at every steps.

Dr Saha appealed for deeper and widespread awareness about environmental concerns and afforestation needed to be practised in everyday life with minor changes in people�s lifestyle.

Dr Saha is currently working as an honorary member of the West Bengal State Council of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, Kolkata.
