GUWAHATI, May 6 � Noted playwright Ali Haidar passed away at the GNRC Hospital around 3-30 pm today. He was suffering from nerve and blood pressure-related complications.
He was 58, and was admitted at the hospital on February 18.
A pioneer figure in the sphere of dramatics, Haidar made his debut with Eta Solar Kahini in 1975. What followed next was a series of evocative plays such as Dhumuha Pakhir Neer and Naisha Yuddha. He played a key role in carrying forward the amateur drama movement in the State.
Haidar was born in Lakhimpur district on July 16, 1952.
He leaves behind a host of relatives, admirers and well-wishers.
Various organizations and individuals have mourned the artiste�s death.
