Norwegian envoy heaps praise on Adil Hussain

By WASIM RAHMAN

JORHAT, Oct 10 - Norways Ambassador to India, Nils Ragnar Kamsvag today heaped praise on Adil Hussain for getting the best actor award at Norways Amanda Awards (National Awards) this year for the movie What Will People Say.

Hussain had played the lead role of a strict Pakistani father in the movie directed by second-generation Norwegian national, Iram Haq.

Amanda Awards or the Norwegian National Awards is Norways top national film honour, which were instituted in 1985.

Speaking at a function at the Assam Agricultural University here, Kamsvag said that the said movie has been sent as official entry to the Oscars by Norway in the Best Foreign Film category and there was much expectation among the Norwegians.

He said Adils bagging the award has forged a cultural linkage between Norway and Assam in addition to agricultural partnership for a collaborative project with the AAU.

Kamsvag further said that he hoped there could be cooperation in the cultural sphere between Norway and Assam.

Later, speaking to The Assam Tribune, Kamsvag said that SPICMACAY, an organisation had been working to bring about cultural exchanges between the two countries for the past 10 years.

Indian literature and music is very popular in Norway. Norwegian authors have attended literary festivals in India and the books of our country have been translated into Indian languages and likewise many Indian authors have been translated into Norwich, the Norwegian Ambassador quipped.

Replying to a question, he, however, ruled out any government agreement regarding cultural cooperation and said that institutes or organisations of both countries would have to come forward in this regard and the Norwegian government would facilitate any proposal which came from Assam or any other place.

Personally, Kamsvag said that he liked Vikram Seths A Suitable Boy and also authors Arundhati Roy and Jhumpa Lahiri.
