NorthEast United take on Kerala Blasters in ISL opener

By Sports Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 30 - The third edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) is all set to kick-off with hosts NorthEast United FC taking on Kerala Blasters here tomorrow. NorthEast United and Kerala Blasters go head-to-head at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Sarusajai here, in the opening fixture of the Indian calendars most watched football tournament.

NorthEast United finished at the bottom of the league table in the first year and although there were some encouraging performances last season, they could not qualify for the play-offs.

Infact, both teams seek to put behind an unsuccessful 2015 ISL, with neither of them having made the play-offs for the semi-final during the regular league. NorthEast United FC seems to be determined to turn the table this season and achieve their target of first qualifying and then securing the title.

Earlier in an interview to The Assam Tribune, NorthEast United FC head coach, Nelo Vingada had stated that reaching the play-offs would be the ultimate goal.

Kerala Blasters head into this game with the onus on stopping NorthEast United rather than grabbing a win themselves. Depleted severely due to player unavailabilities, Coppell has a series of decisions to make even before the team have kicked a ball.

Match starts at 7 pm.
