NORTH GUWAHATI, July 15 - As per the direction of the DC Kamrup (R), SDC Jatin Borah (now transferred) showed 571 bighas of land to the visiting team coming for finalisation of the site for the setting up of AIIMS in North Guwahati, near the GNRC Hospital and Sishugram. The DC Kamrup sent the proposal to the State Government with details of the lands to be acquired.
It may be stated that a vested section has been very active in trying to negate the findings of the DC in regard to the acquisition of the lands and they succeeded in getting the SDC transferred for taking prompt action in enabling the Government of Assam to allot land for the prestigious institution.
The general public and several organisations, including the AASU, have warned the forces opposing the move to establish AIIMS at North Guwahati.
