North Garo Hills doctors to go on cease work

By Correspondent

TURA, Sept 27 - Angry after one of their colleagues was served with a demand note and threat of dire consequences if not complied with, doctors of North Garo Hills are set to go off work for 24 hours tomorrow.

It may be mentioned here that in-charge doctor of Mendipathar PHC, Dr Rezia K Sangma was called repeatedly on her number from an unknown number. Later, on September 26 a message was delivered to the husbands phone demanding an amount of Rs 5 lakh with a threat that non-payment of the amount would lead to an attack on any member of the family.

Following the demand and threat to Dr Sangma, doctors under the aegis of Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) in North Garo Hills today met at Resubelpara to decide on what course of action needed to be taken. Apart from the 24-hour cease work, the meeting also decided that the first step should be to file an FIR and did so today at Resubelpara.
