Woman stabbed to death in Mizoram town

Aizawl, Sep 7: Lunglei police have launched massive manhunt for an unknown assailant who stabbed a 52-year-old woman to death at the southern Mizoram town on Monday.


Police said around 7:30pm last night, the victim, K Vanlalduati, who was alone at her maxicab counter, was attacked by an unidentified man with a hunting knife in an apparent attempt to rob her.


"The victim was found dead lying on the floor with three stab wounds. The murder weapon and scattered money were also found near the dead body," Lunglei police official said.


The maxicab counter is situated in a crowded market place in Lunglei and some people near by spotted the suspect leaving the crime scene in a hurry.


Police on Tuesday morning found the sheath of the knife at 100 metres from the crime scene and later the victim's sling bag with a purse containing Rs 3000 inside it a little farther.


The police have issued the photo of the knife which has a letter R inscribed on it on social media, asking anyone who might know the owner of who made it.


The victim was a single mother and has left her teenage daughter.
