Two BJP workers shot dead in poll-bound Manipur

Guwahati, Jan 10: At least two BJP workers were allegedly shot dead by miscreants in election-bound Manipur on Sunday.

The two BJP workers were claimed to be close to agricultural minister O Lukhoi, who is a sitting MLA from the Wangoi Assembly constituency.

The deceased were identified as Abujam John and Abujam Tomba. The incident took place in Manipur's Imphal West district late on Sunday night in Samurou.

Reportedly, 59-year-old Abujam John died on the spot while Abujam Tomba succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Manipur CM N.Biren Singh paid a visit to the victims' families on Monday morning. He further assured that the perpetrators will be booked at the earliest.

Meanwhile the Election Commission of India, has recently announced the poll dates for the 60 assembly seats of Manipur. The voting will be conducted in two phases on February 27 and March 3. The counting of the votes will be held on March 10.
