Agartala, Mar 13: Panic gripped Indira colony, a sleepy village under Khowai district after a 42-year old woman beheaded her husband (52) and hanged the severed head in a Kali temple of their own.
Superintendent of Police of the district, Bhanupada Chakraborty said the incident had occurred on the wee hours of Friday and the woman, identified as Sabitri Tanti was arrested next day on the charge of murdering her husband, Rabindra Tanti.
Detailing the experience of horror of that night, the elder son of the deceased, Bishal (14) said, "On Friday night I was sleeping with my father in a bed and suddenly woke up and saw that mother was standing in front of our bed and was muttering something. I convinced her to sleep in her bed. I woke up for the second time and saw that my mother was standing near our cot with a machet (Takkal) and when turned at my father saw that his head was severed."
Bishal said, his mother then rushed out of the house and hung the head in the Kali temple on the premise of their house.
When he raised an alarm, the villagers rushed to the house and found that the woman was sitting inside a room with the machet.
On receipt of the information from villagers, police cordoned off the house and arrested the woman on Saturday on the plea that a woman cannot be arrested at midnight.
District and session judge court remanded the woman for fourteen days of jail custody.
Chakraborty (S.P) said no reason for the murder was known and the relation of the woman with her husband was cordial. Police are investigating the case.
However, Bishal said, his mother was a vegetarian but forced his father on the day to bring chicken and she consumed it on the day.
In Sheoratli, a neighbouring village, where one Pradip Roy had murdered his two daughters, a villager and the Police Inspector on November 26 last year.
Chakraborty said the reason behind the murder is not known yet, but deceased's family members told police that the woman developed a psychological disorder recently and underwent treatment.
