Sikkim to make Cannes International Film Festival debut with 'Tara: The Lost Star’
Gangtok, May 11: In a first-of-its kind moment for Sikkim's film industry, "Tara: The Lost Star" is set to premiere at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival 2024, marking the region's first-ever appearance at the esteemed event. Directed by Samten Bhutia and produced by Sabitri Chettri under the SaDa Productions banner in association with Passang Mintok Films, the film represents a significant milestone for the Himalayan region.
Featuring a captivating narrative in Nepali language, "Tara: The Lost Star" offers an insight into the beliefs and vibrant culture of Sikkim and the Himalayas. As a social drama, the film stars Shyama Shree Sherpa and Kiran Dahal, supported by a talented cast including Deoraj Sherpa, Loonibha Tuladhar, Shashikala Pradhan, Sushmita Bhujel, Basant Sharma, Anand Gurung, and Timothy Rai. Its selection for the market screening at Cannes' Marché Du Film underscores the growing acclaim of regional cinema on the global stage.
The Chief Minister of Sikkim, PS Tamang, extended his congratulations to the team behind "Tara: The Lost Star," acknowledging the film's significant achievement in representing Sikkim at Cannes. He praised the director, producer, and all individuals involved in bringing the project to fruition, commending their perseverance, dedication, and vision.
