Imphal, June 26: Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) leader has been appointed as new President of BJP Manipur Pradesh. Arun Singh,National General secretary and Headquarters in-charge of BJP issued an 'organisational appointment' order in this regard.

Sharing three photographs of felicitating the newly appointed President of the BJP Manipur unit on hearing the news, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a facebook post today wrote, "Congratulations to Smt. Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi on having appointed as President of BJP Manipur Pradesh at my office today. I had the honour to felicitate our newly appointed Party President at my office today. Under your able leadership, the party will be able to achieve greater heights and fulfil the aspirations of people."

"Under the visionary leadership of BJP National President JP Nadda Ji, National General Secretary (Org) BL Santosh Ji, NE States BJP General Secretary (Org) Ajay Jamwal Ji, BJP Manipur Incharge Sambit Patra Ji, and the overall guidance of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji, the appointment of Smt Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi as the party President of Manipur has yet again reaffirmed BJP's commitment not only on empowering women but also respecting talent/hard work of individuals irrespective of their gender, caste, creed or religion," Biren Singh added.

Newly appointed BJP Manipur state unit Sharda Devi had been working for the party after she joined the party in June 1995. The 54 year old former school teacher was also the national vice president of the party from 2014-2016 apart from holding various positions in the party's state unit and other national boards.She is a resident of Imphal East district.

It may be recalled that the post of BJP state unit president was lying vacant after the former President S Tikendra Singh passed away on May 13.
