School principal, 2 others arrested as student dies, over 40 fall ill due to 'food poisoning' in Arunachal

Itanagar, Apr 1: Three persons, including the principal of a boarding school in Arunachal Pradesh's Kra Daadi district, were arrested after one of its students died and over 40 school children fell ill allegedly due to food poisoning, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at Christ Care School, Yangte, about 50 km away from Palin, the headquarters of Kra Daadi district, SP Dusu Kaling said.

"More than 40 students had fallen sick after eating dinner. They were getting medical attention and treatment at the Yangte Medical Unit. When the health condition of the deceased girl student deteriorated, she was referred to Itanagar for improved treatment. But she died on the way to the state capital on Wednesday," the SP said.

The principal, the cook and the warden of the school were arrested today in connection with the incident, the SP said, while adding that a case (No.15/22) U/S 304/337/328/273 IPC has been registered and an investigation launched.

The entire episode came to fore only today after the news of the death of the girl student, who was brought down to Itanagar for better treatment, went viral on social media, which prompted the police to swing into action.

The SP said a police team is in Yangte for investigation. The DC also visited the spot.

Meanwhile, the condition of the remaining students who had fallen sick are said to be stable and recovering and most of them have been taken away by their parents, he informed quoting the District Medical Officer.
