Santa Khurai addressed 48th Human Rights Council Session held in Geneva on Sept 15

Imphal, Sept 19: In her statement to special rapporteur of water and sanitation, Santa Khurai who is the secretary of All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association, addressed the issues faced by LGBTIQ+ community in democratic access to safe water and sanitation.

Santa, also a fellow under Swedish Federation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender Rights, made the statement on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons from 14 countries.

Thanking the special rapporteur for highlighting marginalised groups disapprotionately face vilations to their rights to water and sanination, Santa said the marginalised groups are not homogenous and intersecting fors of discrimination and inequality impact us differently.

Expressing on the current COVID crisis situation and its impact on the LGBTIQ+ community, santa said that all humans have a right to access water and sanitation equally and states must adopt policies and programs that address LGBTIQ+ issues, affirm their identities, and involve LGBTI people in decision making on water and sanitation management.
