Imphal, Feb 21: The All India Congress Committee leader Rahul Gandhi is arriving in Imphal today to attend election campaigns for the congress candidates.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC)'s general secretary (Administration)in a notice issued here on Sunday asked its functionaries and supporters to participate in the Mega Rally to be addressed by Rahul Gandhi at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal.
During the visit to the state, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the Shaheed Minar at Bir Tikendrajit Park and the Nupi Lal Memorial complex both located in the heart of Imphal town and pay tribute to all the departed souls of the freedom fighters of Manipur, party sources said.
Afterwards he will head to address a public meeting at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East District. He will also be meeting the leaders of MPCC at Congress Bhavan located along the Bir Tikendrajit Road in Imphal. Later he will leave Imphal for the national capital, the sources said
Currently AICC leaders Jairam Ramesh who is senior observer (Manipur) and Bhakta Charan Das who is in charge (Manipur) have been camping in the state since the last many days, attending the ongoing elections campaigns for the party's 54 candidates in the ensuing elections.
Manipur will go to assembly elections on February 28 and March 5.The counting will take place on March 10.The fate of 265 candidates including 17 women candidates are contesting at 60 assembly constituencies across the state.
In 2017 assembly elections, Congress emerged as the single largest party in the state by winning 28 seats out of 60 seats.
However, despite winning 21 seats to Congress's 28, BJP had been able to form government in Manipur in 2017 with support of four NPP MLAs, four Naga People's Front (NPF) MLAs and one MLA each from TMC, Lok Janshakti Party and an Independent.
