More than 3 cr fake currency of demonetised notes seized in Manipur

Imphal, Oct 1: Manipur police have seized more than Rs 3 crores in fake currency notes of demonetised Rs 1000 from a hut during an operation in Imphal East district,sources said.

Based on reliable information about manufacturing of fake Indian currency notes a joint district police team led by SP of Thoubal district, after informing the control room of Imphal East district conducted a search operation at Keirao Wangkhem area in Imphal East district at about 4.30 am on Thursday, according to sources from Thoubal district police.

During the search operation, the police found bundles of fake Indian currency notes of demonetised Rs 1000 from inside a locked hut situated at Keirao Khuman Lok area,it said.

The owner of the hut has been identified as one Ch Dewan Singh (50) of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngariyan Chingkhong Leikai. Dewan disclosed that some manufactured fake Indian currency notes of Rs 1000 were hidden inside his hut. He disclosed that the packing and binding of fake Indian currency notes were done along with one Ch Surchandra (40) of of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngariyan Chingkhong Leikai, it said.

Both of them were arrested and seized the fake Indian currency notes by observing the the formalities on Thursday,it said.Further the two arrested persons disclosed that the fake Indian currency notes were brought by one Tony of Keirao along with his nephew Arun of Waithou Thiyam Khunjao and handed over to them, it stated.

The arrested persons along with seized items are being handed over to the Officer in Charge of Irilbung police station for further investigation,it added.
