Aizawl, June 20: Mizoram's COVID-19 tally soared to 16,943 on Sunday as 193 more people tested positive for the infection, while four fresh fatalities pushed the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 81, a health official said.
Aizawl district registered the highest number of new cases at 140, followed by Lawngtlai (23) and Kolasib (14), he said. Sixteen patients have a travel history, while 177 infections were detected during contact tracing, the official said. Mizoram now has 3,733 active cases, while 13,129 people have recovered from the infection so far, including 271 on Saturday.
The recovery rate among coronavirus patients stands at 77.48 percent, while the mortality rate is at 0.47 per cent. The state has thus far tested over 4.52 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 2,779 in the last 24 hours. The single-day positivity rate stood at 6.94 percent. A total of 3.70 lakh people have been inoculated so far, State Immunisation Officer Dr Lalzawmi said.
