Mizoram logs 903 fresh COVID-19 cases

Aizawl, Jan 9: Mizoram on Sunday registered as many as 903 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the state's tally to 1,45,527, a health department official said on Sunday.

The state had reported 852 cases on Saturday. The toll remained unchanged at 558 as no new fatality was recorded in the last 24 hours. At least 117 children are among the newly infected people, the official said.

Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 283, followed by Serchhip at 182 and Khawzawl at 150, he said. Mizoram currently has 4,367 active cases. Altogether 1,40,602 people have recovered from the disease so far.

The single-day positivity rate in the state stood at 15.86 per cent, up from 15 per cent the previous day, the official said. The recovery rate clocked 96.61 per cent and the death rate 0.38 per cent. The northeastern state has so far tested 15.38 lakh samples for COVID-19, 5,694 of which were examined on Saturday.

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi, over 7.46 lakh people, including 13,775 children in the age group of 15-17 years, have been inoculated with anti-COVID vaccine.

Of the 7.46 lakh beneficiaries, 5.94 lakh have received two doses, she added.
