Meghalaya: Ri-Bhoi records highest new Covid-19 cases once again

Shillong, July 6: Nine more persons have died due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours taking the death toll in the state to 880.

Five of these deaths occurred in East Khasi Hills district, two in Ri-Bhoi district and one each in West Khasi Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

On the other hand, Ri-Bhoi district has become the epicenter of new cases registering 154, out of the total 457 new cases. The district is reporting a surge because of an outbreak in the district jail at Nongpoh.

East Khasi Hills district has the second highest new cases with 99 followed by 69 in West Garo Hills district, 45 in West Jaintia Hills district and 14 cases each in South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills district.

The state also registered 497 recoveries with East Khasi Hills registering the highest with 143. Ri-Bhoi district registered 69 and North Garo Hills district 60.

The active cases in the state are 4,305 with 8.22 percent of active cases. The total recoveries in the state are 47,173 and total positive cases reported so far are 52,385.
