Manipur records highest single-day spike of 824 Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

Imphal, May 26: Manipur's COVID-19 infection rate seems to be on the rise as the state on Tuesday recorded this year's highest single-day spike of 824 new Covid-19 positive cases, according to a press release.

So the State's total infection tally rises to 45,451 besides increasing the total number of active cases to 6,785.

The new positive cases were detected from 14 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (361), Imphal East (168) and Kakching (92) districts, as per the release of the health department.

On the other hand the state reported total fatalities of 15 Covid-19 patients, taking the state's Covid 19 death toll rises to 720.

The deceased, which include six females hailed from Imphal West (9), Imphal West (3), Bishnupur (1),Kakching(1) and Thoubal(1) districts, expired at five health care centres in the State,the release said.

So far 37,946 persons, including 468 in the last 24 hours, have recovered so far, the recovery rate declined again to 83.48 %.

As of Tuesday, 6,77,478 persons were screened at the entry points of the state while 6,88,805 persons (including 3,788 persons in last 24hrs were tested for COVID 19 at the various testing centres in the state.

Meanwhile Manipur police detained 237 persons across the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of Rs 78,100 was also collected as fine.

On the other hand the state has so far given 3,52,651 anti-Covid jabs to the residents. Till date,79,851 healthcare workers and frontline workers received a second dose of vaccines.

The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield vaccine is 37,709 while 24,539 of them got the second dose of vaccines, the state health department officials said.

So far 86,356 frontline workers received the first dose while 49,282 got the second dose of Covishield in the State.
