Manipur: Newly elected members take oath as Members of Legislative Assembly

Imphal, March 14-The formal oath taking ceremony of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly is under process at the Assembly hall.
"The Hon'ble Members are requested to bring the Original Certificate of Election issued to them by the concerned Returning Officers," says Secretary K Meghajit Singh of Manipur Legislative Assembly in a bulletin.
The oath taking ceremony was scheduled after the state Governor La Ganesan dissolved the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly on March 11.
Earlier on Sunday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s elected candidate Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh from Lamshang assembly constituency, was sworn in as Member-elect of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly.
S Rajen was appointed as the person before whom newly elected Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe an oath of affirmation until a Speaker of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is elected.
Manipur Governor La Ganesan administered the oath of office and secrecy to S Rajen Singh who was re-elected from Lamsang assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.
The caretaker Chief Minister N Biren Singh, MLAs elect Th Biswajit Singh, Y Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, DGP Manipur P Doungel and other top officials of the state attended the day's swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
In the recently concluded 2-phase Manipur assembly elections, BJP emerged with an absolute majority by bagging 32 seats while Congress and Naga People's Front secured five seats each. The National People's Party became the second largest party with seven seats. The Janata Dal (U) secured six, Kuki People's Alliance two and three Independents.
