Manipur govt lifts day time curfew,imposes night curfew till August 22

Imphal, Aug 8: Manipur government has lifted the day time curfew and imposed night curfew in the state for 15 days from August 8 to 22.

The state chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar who is the chairman of the state executive committee of the state disaster management authority issued an order in this regard on Saturday and it was made available to the media late in the evening. Stating that there is need to allow more economic activities in respect of the seven districts also while taking up measures necessary for public health safety and permitted a number of activities in respect of the remaining nine districts, the order said night curfew from 6pm to 5am would be enforced strictly.

"Deputy Commissioners shall issue necessary orders and Superintendents of Police shall take necessary action to implement the orders strictly," the order said. It may be mentioned that the total curfew in the state's seven districts was imposed since July 18 to break the chain of Covid 19 transmission. The home department's order came following a state cabinet decision on Saturday. According to a press release issued by Health department on Saturday evening, the state cabinet reviewed the curfew imposed for 21 days to control Covid transmission.

"To maintain balance with livelihood and economic activities,it was decided to discontinue curfew and adopt a micro containment zone approach, in line with the Central government advisories," says the release. "Gram Panchayats,village authorities,local clubs,etc will be fully involved by Deputy Commissioners in ensuring strict micro containment zones and isolation of fresh positive cases."

All public are requested to adopt the Covid appropriate behaviour to fully control Covid 19 in Manipur, it stated. On Saturday, Manipur reported 699 new Covid 19 positive cases, when 4,941 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases is 8,146.The state's recovery rate increases to 90.55 %.
