Imphal,July 16: In view of the wide prevalence of Delta Variant of the Coronavirus in the state and also considering the need of taking up stringent measures to break the chain of transmission, the Manipur government has announced a total curfew for ten days from July 18.

The Principal Secretary (health) V Vumlunmang of the Government of Manipur, issued a public notice in this regard on Thursday night.

Only essential activities related to vaccination, Covid testing, medical services, water supply,power supply, telecom/internet services, air travel and agricultural activities would be allowed, the public notice said. Formal orders will be issued separately. The notice also requested the general public to cooperate in tackling Covid 19.

On Thursday, Manipur recorded 1039 new Covid 19 positive cases when 7,056 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the state's total infection tally to 81,560, according to the state health department sources. The total number of active cases also increases to 8,558. The new positive cases were detected from 15 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (289), Imphal East (270)and Churachandpur (98) districts.

The state also reported 14 fatalities of 22 Covid 19 patients in the last 24 hours, taking the state's Covid 19 death toll to 1340, sources said. On the other hand with 677 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered COVID 19 cases in Manipur reached 71,662, it added. Thus Manipur's recovery rate stands at 87.86%.

As of Thursday, 9,82,099 persons were tested for COVID 19 while 7,58,835 persons were screened at the entry points of the state at the various testing centres in the state, it said.So far the state has given 9,55,923 doses of Covid vaccines including 8,52,179 first and 1,03,744 second doses to the residents.
