Imphal, Aug 27: The BJP leader La. Ganesan has been sworn in as new Governor of Manipur at the Dubar hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal this morning.
Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Ganesan.
The State Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh,Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Speaker of Manipur assembly Yumnam Khemchand Singh,Council of Ministers,state Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar led other officials and senior citizens were present during the swearing in ceremony.
Later, the new Governor also inspected guard of honour. On his arrival here on Thursday afternoon, a warm reception was accorded to Governor designate of Manipur La. Ganesan by Chief Minister Biren Singh and his Council of ministers along with guard of honours by a combined contingent consisting of 5th IRB (Indian Reserve Battalion), 6th MR(Manipur Rifles) and 1st MR lead by Commanding Officer of 10th IRB at Raj Bhavan.
The post of the governor had fallen vacant after the retirement of Najma Heptulla earlier this month.It may be mentioned that Dr Heptulla was sworn in as Governor of Manipur in 2016.
