Itanagar, Jan 11: Itanagar Capital Complex on Monday recorded the highest ever single-day spike in COVID-19 cases this year as 63 persons, including 37 at a boarding school, tested positive for the virus, official sources said.

Post detection of the cluster of COVID-19 cases, Itanagar Capital Complex District Magistrate cum Chairman DDMA Talo Potom declared the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) at PTC Banderdewa campus as a 'micro containment zone', putting the inmates under quarantine for a period of 14 days with immediate effect.

The DM directed the District Medical Officer, ICC to immediately collect samples of the primary and secondary contacts for COVID-19 tests, besides asking him to deploy staff at the school campus to oversee the immediate medical needs of the inmates, as may be required, and also for thermal scanning.

Apart from putting curb on gathering/assembly of people, the DM ordered that no unauthorized persons shall be allowed to enter or exit from the contained area without prior approval from him or DMO or District Surveillance Officer.

He however said that the movement of people for supply of essential items and other emergency services shall be regulated and police/security guards shall be deployed by the SP Capital to regulate the same.

"The essential items required by the inmates shall be provided by coordinating with shopkeepers/ home delivery firms by concerned administrative officers (EACs/COs) in coordination with the police and health workers," Potom said.

The DM, meanwhile, warned that the violator(s) shall be prosecuted under section 51 (b) of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and under Section 188 of IPC.

With the detection of new cases, the active caseload of Itanagar Capital Complex has skyrocketed to 145 from existing 82, health officials said.
